How Pools Turn Green
Your pool turned green because algae took over. Algae are tiny plants that love warm water and sunlight. When your pool does not have enough chlorine or the chemicals get out of balance, algae grow fast. Within just a few days, clear water can turn into a swamp. The hot Texas sun makes it worse. One week of vacation without proper care and you could come home to a green mess.
Green pools are not just ugly. They are also unsafe. You cannot see the bottom so you do not know if someone is in trouble. The water can harbor bacteria that make you sick. And the longer you wait, the harder and more expensive it gets to fix. But the good news is we can restore any green pool back to blue, no matter how bad it looks right now.
Our Green Pool Recovery Process
We have cleared hundreds of green pools in Seguin and the surrounding areas. Here is exactly how we bring your pool back to life:
- Remove all large debris like leaves, branches, and trash from the surface
- Test the water chemistry to see what we are working with
- Add powerful algaecide to kill the algae throughout the pool
- Shock the pool with high doses of chlorine to destroy remaining algae
- Brush all surfaces to break up algae clinging to walls and floor
- Run the filter continuously and backwash or clean it multiple times
- Vacuum up dead algae settled on the bottom
- Balance pH, alkalinity, and all other chemicals for safe swimming
How Long Does It Take?
Most green pools take 3 to 7 days to fully clear. We usually visit 2 or 3 times during that week. The first visit is when we do the heavy treatment. Then we come back to monitor progress, brush again, and make adjustments. By the third visit, your pool should be clear and ready to swim. Really bad pools with black algae or heavy staining might take a bit longer. We give you an honest timeline during our first visit.
Keeping Your Pool Blue After Treatment
After we clear your green pool, you need to keep it from happening again. The best way is to sign up for our weekly pool cleaning service. We come every week to test, balance, clean, and maintain your water. This keeps algae from ever getting a foothold. It is way cheaper and easier than treating a green pool over and over.
If you want to do it yourself, you need to test your water at least twice a week and add chlorine regularly. Make sure your filter is clean and working so it can catch debris. And run your pump long enough each day. Most pools need 8 to 12 hours of circulation. Skip these steps and the algae will come back fast.
